St. John's Catholic Church

Leopold, Missouri

Church History

St. John's Church, Leopold, Mo.

St. John's Leopold Church, was built in the year of 1899.  Work was begun in the spring.  The church was built in pure Gothic style from native limestone found around and near the town.  Parishioners of St. John's did most of the work on the church themselves.  The church has undergone many interior changes.

In the Fall of 2003, Bishop John Leibrecht announced that St. Anthony's Parish at Glennon, Mo., would be a Mission Parish of St. John's.  Formerly, St. Anthony's was a Mission of St. Joseph's in Advance, Mo.  This seemed like a good decision because many of the people in Leopold have relatives in Glennon.  Also, the Glennon youth attend school with the Leopold students.  For more information, click here: St. Anthony's
